Prosperity Cake

July 17, 2009 by Suzie the Foodie 11 Comments

Prosperity/Good Luck Cake

The colour orange is a lucky colour, it is also a colour that inspires prosperity and good fortune. The last time my sister Shannon came I made her a prosperity cake and she went home and found a job. This time we made one and I asked that good luck and fortune find us both.
This White Mountain Cake is absolutely beautiful. I am not much of a cake person because they tend to be dry and crumble but this one is so very moist and delicate. I doubt I have ever had a better cake anywhere! To add the element of orange to it I used orange extract instead of almond.
I am also super particular about frosting/icing. I do not like the professional buttercream icing that you make with egg whites and boiling sugar. I prefer the simple and more “old-fashioned housewife technique” of simply creaming butter and icing sugar together like the recipe I used for this cake: Creamy White Frosting. Instead of milk I bound the icing together with freshly squeeze orange juice as well as including the zest of an entire orange.

Prosperity/Good Luck Cake

Was it ever a treat! Shannon just had to take a picture of it too. Talk about “rich”! Perfect choice for a prosperity cake, all that butter and sugar. Not something I would make every day but for family visiting? You bet.
You can make food special by putting intention in it as well as adding natural ingredients that take the taste to a whole new level! Food can be more than just what we eat. It can be a connection to nature, a door to our wishes and dreams.

Yummy! Beautiful cake. I love that you changed it to suit what you wanted. Recipes are so easy to manipulate!

I have a list going of things I want to bake once this humidity finally breaks. There’s no way I’m turning the oven on when the weather is like it has been here. I assume you’ve still got the cold and rainy weather?

    I am SO MAKING THIS!!!
It looks delicious, orange is my favourite colour, and who doesn’t want prosperity in their life?
I love the part about infusing it with good luck and fortune.
(* my icing will most likely come from a can at the store – I’m not as talented as you)

I like the idea of a prosperity cake. It looks yummy. It is true we can infuse food with good qualities. I’m going to make me some prosperity brownies and good luck cookies.

I love both the recipe and the story. I think we’ll make a Prosperity Cake — complete with orange sprinkles — today.
