Sometimes on the weekend my friends and I will go to the movies in Bayers Lake. Beforehand we like to get together for a quick bite and catch up. The other weekend our local spot was packed with people and the wait was going to be quite long. I was starving. I just wanted food.
My friend Kelly suggested a restaurant named Cheachie’s Grill. According to their site they won the 2010 Stick A Fork In It Award for Best Burger which sounded good to all of us. The only problem? Getting there!
They are located on 102 Chain Lake Drive which sounds all fine and dandy but as you drive towards this address, the restaurant is going to be facing the other way. My recommendation? If you do not have a GPS in your car, keep an eye out for Lakeview Inn and Suites, Halifax. Right before you get to the hotel, look for the building right next door on the left. Then, you will finally find Cheachie’s!
Pass me a menu! Now, what to eat…??? If you are in a restaurant that got an award for their burgers, you order burgers. Which is what we all did.
This is my friend Jen’s burger. I have to be honest, I am not entirely sure which one this is but I am pretty sure it is The House Burger. I know, totally bad of me but my blood sugar was crashing and I just wanted to eat damn it!
Being a chicken fanatic, my husband Reg got The Mother Clucker. This is the first time ever I almost wish I had ordered chicken, it looked so good!
Now everyone wanted to hear me order my burger by name but I refused. I creatively got out of saying TDS because I do not like to use unpleasant and disgusting words when order (or writing about) food. For those who are curious, just look above “The House Burger” on the menu to find out the name.
Let’s just say that it was a Mexican-inspired hamburger that came with chilli fries. We all loved our dinners. The buns were so nice and soft, the meat obviously never-frozen, the patties made fresh and so delicious. I skipped the jalapenos and was told that my burger was the wimpy TDS but I am glad I played it safe because the salsa had jalapenos in it. It is true, I am a wimp when it comes to heat. I wish there had been more guacamole but I am a fiend when it comes to guac. The chilli fries were fantastic but the fries themselves were not seasoned. We had to take turns using the salt shaker.
The food was around $13 not including drinks and I have to say, it was worth it. A little more than I would normally spend on burgers and fries but absolutely satisfying and delicious. I will go to Cheachie’s Grill again. The service was friendly, they let us take out time and hang out with no pressure at all. The place was large for a big group, easy place to have a relaxed dinner on a Saturday night in Bayer’s Lake which is quite a feat!
I give the food at Cheachie’s Grill four and a half out of five wooden spoons! Just keep in mind that if you go there for dinner, you are there for the food and the company. This is not a fancy hangout but a great place to eat a burger and catch up with friends.
I love “real” hamburgers made with fresh ground beef. No frozen patty can compete.
Wow that looks so good! I’ll have The Big Earl Burger please!
Me too Debra! There truly is no comparison. I’m making my own tonight, can’t wait! Ava, awesome choice!
