Review of McDonald’s Asian Crispy Shrimp McWrap

August 7, 2014 by Suzie the Foodie 3 Comments

Right from the beginning of McDonald’s Signature McWrap releases last year, I have been on board. I found the Fiesta McWrap a little sweet but interesting. The Crispy Chicken and Bacon was exactly as advertised. The Sante Fe was a little spicy for me and The Mediterranean McWrap was my absolute favourite.

When I received a press release about McDonald’s new Asian Crispy Shrimp Signature McWrap and some free vouchers, I could not wait to give it a shot!

“Delicious pieces of crispy shrimp topped with sweet & spicy Thai sauce, Asian salad mix, grilled vegetables and garlic mayonnaise-style sauce, all wrapped up in a warm whole wheat soft-shell tortilla.”

Going to McDonalds

I am sure you have seen the promotions for this new foodie product, it is everywhere! I love shrimp and Thai food so I thought for sure I would love it.

Right away I noticed my shrimp looked more burned and greasy than “golden brown”. And my grilled veggies were very overcooked.

There was a lot more breading that there was shrimp and it was way overcooked.

A lot of the vegetables were crisp but some were so wilted from being grilled. It was not a pleasant eating experience.

Normally I am a believe that more sauce is always the right choice but there was so much mayo on top of the sweet Thai sauce that it was just too sweet for me. The warm mayonnaise with the wilted vegetables and the over cooked shrimp was NOT an enjoyable foodie experience for me at all.

Foodie Conclusion

What a bummer. I thought this would be a home run but no, it is a foodie fail. I would never eat this again. For those who like overly sweet and gooey, you may find this a treat which is the only reason why I am giving this product one out of five wooden spoons.

I was also hoping to try one of McDonald’s iced coffees, it turns out they don’t do decaf damn it! So I got another coffee frappe which I adore but I really want to try cutting back on drinkable desserts.

Lately at more than one McDonald’s location we have had bad service, mistakes with our orders, long waits… I was hoping this would turn my foodie luck around but no. It may be a while before we are back.

Well, it’s a good thing then that I don’t like shrimp.

Can’t stand shrimp in any form or any other seafood come to that! The only thing I like at McD’s is their pineapple mango smoothie. I know it’s all sugar but it’s delicious!

I tasted this mcwrap a week ago in Saskatoon Walmart McDonald, and I can honestly say that the sauce tasted horrible. Th shrimp on top was tasty, but once I went down in the sandwich I smelled something like urine, and then tasted the horrible sauce, that I had to throw away he rest of the sandwich. I nearly never throw away any food, but I had to do so in this case. If you are still willing to eat this, then avoid the sauce by all means. Unfortunately the sauce is what is used to prepare the veggies, so I couldn’t judge them.
    Overall, NEVER AGAIN!!
