I was thrilled to get an email on behalf of Subway inviting me to product test their Atlantic Canada Lobster Sandwich which is available for a limited time. Apparently a gift card is on its way but I could not wait for it to show up in my mailbox. I wanted it NOW!!!
It was a very long and hot day here in Vancouver and I had to go to a medical appointment. When I got home I wanted comfort food. STAT!
Reg and I walked over to our local Subway which was also our local Subway back in 2000-2001. Same owners and everything. They know us REALLY well. Especially Reg. In fact, I asked them to take good care of him while I was in Toronto.
One of my favourite lines of all time from a movie is from Mystery Men: “We are on a blind date with destiny – And it looks like she just ordered the LOBSTER!”
Not only did I order the lobster…
I got a foot-long lobster sandwich! And I ate it. ALL of it!
One thing about ordering such a special treat like this at Subway is I got it just the way I wanted it. I prefer the flatbread. I did not know at the time that it was supposed to be on an Italian-style bun. Doh!
I also like having white cheese, spinach, lettuce and olives with my sandwiches. Hey, be proud of my self-restraint in not also getting pickles, LOL.
I also asked for light mayo (I was not aware at the time it was supposed to already contain some) and we brought it home so I could photograph it.
According to Subway: “The sandwich is made with delicious, tender chunks of Atlantic Canada lobster meat, lightly tossed with mayo and complemented with crisp shredded lettuce on freshly-baked Italian bread for a true Maritime experience.”
So yes, I ended up having double mayo but to be honest, the lobster looked pretty dry to me when they put it on the flatbread so I am glad I asked for more. They toasted mine (just the bread and cheese, not the lobster) and I also asked for some salt and pepper. As a result, mine was definitely a custom order.

Oh man, this was delicious! I loved getting it exactly how I wanted it on the bread I wanted, with the greens I wanted… There is no doubt that at my particular Subway they definitely used high quality and tasty lobster. My one complaint is that it ended up being very, very wet. Probably my fault because I wanted more mayo but it was extremely messy to eat.
I am not going to complain about the slight discomfort of an over-stuffed tummy from eating too much lobster. That is all my fault and I take full responsibility for it. This sandwich was so good. Next time I would get a 6″ and be happy to pay the $8.50 for it.
I give this product made this way four and a half out of five wooden spoons. Technically, I did not have the sandwich that was advertised as it was advertised. So… I will go back and do so! Review to come…

Haven’t seen this yet at our Alberta Subways — perhaps the promotion is not happening here or it just hasn’t registered with me because I’m not a seafood eater.

Yes it is in Alberta. $9 for a 6″ tasteless sub – not worth it.

From what I understand, it is happening across Canada Debra, but not all Subways will be participating.

I’ll have to try this one. I liked the McDonald’s one well enough but found it really small.

Marina, if you get the 12″ like me, it is a lot! But I loved it. Remember, my review is based on how I ordered it. Next time, soon, I will get it as advertised. I would suggested you order it the way you want it.

Mine had zero mayo in it… But it was watery and soggy. Yuck.

What a total disappointment Janet! I guess I instinctively ordered it the way I wanted it to avoid not enough mayo and get it the way I want. I will order it your way to confirm that is how they are selling it here.

Had it here in Toronto – with taxes a 12″ is $17.00 REALLY??
Tasted fishy and old.
Not even worth $3.00.
NEVER again.

Not made of 100% lobster. Its a blend of Pollock, Filler, some other fish and a little bit of actual lobster
