I went through my foodie archives and found some recipes you may want to try this year for the long holiday weekend. They are some of our favourites:
Bobby Flay’s Pumpkin Bread with Spicy Caramel Apple Sauce, Crockpot Apple Cranberry Cider, Roasted Butternut Squash Soup, “The best apple pie I have ever had” and Chuck Hughes’ Mom’s Maple Pecan Pie.
Also excellent choices: Best pumpkin pie I have ever had and Crockpot Roast Beef.
Going to try making a crockpot turkey breast this year, wish me luck! Have a wonderful long weekend my Canadian foodie friends!
Hi Suzie,
Yummy thanksgiving recipes! I always wondered what the Canadian Thanksgiving is? Ours is all about the Pilgrims coming to America back in 1620 but what is the Canadian Thanksgiving about? obviously giving Thanks, but is there anything else?
Same here Sandi! Thanksgiving here always catches me off guard. To be honest, I don’t really celebrate it. It’s always good to show gratitude though! Most people I know just like to get together with family, more than it being about anything else.
Sandi, our Thanksgiving is closer to the old Harvest Festival idea of Thanksgiving. Historically, Canadians don’t really have a Pilgrims ‘n Indians aspect to this holiday.
The other night, I had the most delicious slice of vegan pumpkin pie with a crushed nut crust. It was an eye-opener how good it was!
Thanks Debra! I knew there was a difference and wow, that pie sounds amazing. And impressive!
