I can not stay silent about the state of affairs and the current immigration ban going on right now in the U.S. Even if I wasn’t the granddaughter and daughter of a Latvian refugee I would still care, still stand up to the religious intolerance happening right now.
I am here today because countries opened their doors to people escaping war. Have we not learned from Word War 2 that religious persecution is wrong? What is happening is wrong, it is illegal and immoral.
It is the first time since my mom died that I am glad she is not here. As a pacifist, a woman who believed in love first at all costs, she would be heartbroken to see what is happening today. I know I am.

Susie, well said and with just the right words. As a U.S. citizen, I am appalled at what is happening. Some days I can barely stand to be in my skin because I feel helpless to stop these grave errors. I have compassion for all and embrace our uniqueness. I will never give that up. The difference between truth and lies is clear to those who value integrity in themselves and choose to be honest. We are seeing a whole lot of lies trying to be passed off as truth.
What we can do: Be strong and look for good. Believe each day is a fresh outlook on hope. Hugs!

Thanks for listening and for sharing Joy. It certainly does feel like nobody has any power to stop what is happening which is so painful. Yes, be strong and look for good, my mom would embrace that idea too!

Yes! Well said! My Huguenot ancestors came to the USA after Protestants were being put to death in France…my immigrant ancestor’s parents were put to death. My Irish ancestors came to Ontario, Canada for economic help after poverty in Ireland as Irish Catholics….could not own land or learn a trade. Compassion, respect, love and religious freedom, safely from war, basic needs. Thanks Suzie for speaking up!

Thanks Elsie! You come from a long line of survivors too, trying to find a better life. Yes, all of those are beautiful words to live by. It’s the least I could do. I couldn’t NOT say anything any longer. Not in my DNA.
Debra She Who Seeks says
We have to be super vigilant that those toxic attitudes do not seep over the border into Canada in any major way. We need to fight those ideas right here at home too.
Suzie the Foodie says
It is so true Debra! It already has in Quebec of course which is horrifying. Gotta remember this is not who we are.
The Happy Whisk says
You wrote this so well, Suzie.

Thank you so much.
