Avalon Bay Air Fryer “Fried” Pierogies

Avalon Bay Air Fryer "Fried" Pierogies

Over the holidays a foodie miracle happened! I was gifted an Avalon Bay Airfryer! I did not even bother putting an air fryer on my Wishlist, thinking there was no way that was ever going to happen. Then I found out a family member wanted to let theirs go and I totally freaked out saying, I would love it!!! I would love it!!! And… Now I have one.

Being able to “fry” food using basically what is a conduction oven with so much less fat than pan frying is all the rage and has been for a while. My friend Ivy The Happy Whisk has basically become a master at it.

I had no idea it would be so big and, well, kind of intimidating. Just watch my video to see my response at using it for the first time!

Pierogies!

The first thing I wanted to make in my new-to-me air fryer was pierogies of course! Turns out? Not a lot of people have used it successfully for this particular foodie applications. The Happy Whisk gave me some advice and then I decided to wing it.

Test Batch

You know I am actually truly serious about not f*cking up when I do a test run. I parboiled 3 pierogies for 3 minutes.

I tossed them in butter (nope, not low fat pierogies) and seasoned them with grill spice and freshly ground pepper.

I put them in the air fryer at 360F for 5 minutes. Not done enough so I added 5 more minutes.

Crispy and delicious! Hallelujah! The thing that shocked me the most was the instant heat. No pre-heating necessary so this was fast.

The Real Pierogi Deal

It was the last night of holiday feasting so I parboiled the rest of the pack of pierogies.

I coated half with butter and seasoning, then put in the air fryer. I did not want to stack them since air needs to get around them. Apparently you are supposed to flip half way. Oops!

After ten minutes? Perfection! And… These doughy beauties stayed super hot while the last batch air fried.

Foodie Conclusion

I served with sour cream, green onion, caramelized onions and sides of bacon and salad.

Now that was one hell of a way to finish off holiday feasting! We all LOVED them but then, we love crunchy pierogies.

In Short

Here is what you need to do to make air fried pierogies:

  1. Parboil 5 minutes
  2. Either toss in melted butter or spray with Pam/oil spray.
  3. Season as preferred.
  4. Air fry at 360F for 10 minutes in 1-layer batches.
  5. Flip halfway through cooking time.

So far so awesome with my new air fryer! I can not wait to try something else in it and am open to ideas and suggestions. It is a whole new foodie world… Let’s air fry it!

Thanks Ivy! I picked up pizza bites and am going to try them next! They didn’t have pizza rolls so hopefully this will work.

wondering why to par boil…they’re basically almost done then, but… the air fryer is supposed to eliminate all those extras steps and fat. I would have just cooked them the rest of the way on the stovetop at that point! lol
