Should you buy an ice cream maker or not?

July 8, 2017 by Suzie the Foodie 5 Comments

It has been a long time since I made a video! I realize there was a ton of advice I wanted to give on whether or not you should buy an ice cream maker, what you can do with one, what it means to make your own ice cream… I put together this video to answer all those questions in one shot and I apologize for the loud intro. Forgot that when I record via headset it gets so much louder!

Happy Weekend Foodies!

I have had a Cuisinart ice cream maker for years! I only started using it regularly this year. I used to use it to make sorbets and ices, but never used it to its full potential. That with Williams Sonoma “Ice Cream” recipe book and I’m gaining weight steadily now lol…I think I paid maybe $50 for my in the early 2000’s. It’s not a high end machine, but it’s perfect for the two of us!

Since eating our own ice creams, we went back to the Nestly “Parlour” vanilla we had hidden in the back of the freezer and we tasted plastic. Eek. I’ll never go back to store bought!

The next challenge is ice cream sandwiches!

That’s the one I want Rain! And wow, you have Williams Sonoma’s ice cream cookbook too, totally have ice cream and cookbook envy. Yup, once you have homemade ice cream, it is almost impossible to go back, I know. What a fun challenge! Bring on the ice cream sandwiches!

Do you have a good recipe for the cookie part of the ice cream sandwich?
Btw…I’ve read bad reviews about the Cuisinart, saying that it doesn’t make the ice cream well, the tub doesn’t freeze well…I have never had an issue with that and was surprised by those reviews. I can’t afford a high end machine, but I’m really happy with the one I have. I made a coffee ice cream with Bailey’s this morning…what a way to start the day ha ha! 🙂

You know, I have never made cookies for that purpose but I bet the Subway takeout cookies would work: http://www.suziethefoodie.com/janes-subway-chocolate-chip-cookies/

Wow, I just read some great reviews about Cuisinart’s ice cream maker, so weird. I guess it depends on which one you get. Breville also has a very good reputation but is quite expensive. I can’t afford a high end machine either, I hear ya. Me too, I make do with what I got which works with ice cream making. Oh man! I gotta make that ice cream.

Thanks for the link! There are so many possibilities for the cookies! Strawberry ice cream is on the menu for today! (Gotta use up the fresh berries!!!) 🙂
