I don’t know about you but I am tired of shows about foodie wars and conflict. I miss learning about how to make food, damn it! I can’t go to cooking school so I thought I would start my own. No teachers, deadlines, essays… this is a school for rebels and delinquents!
I should warn you that there will be swearing, disasters and foodie rebellion going on in this school of independent culinary learning. We will be working with cookbooks but probably will end up go off the foodie page chaotically. This will not be a traditional cooking school.
First Lesson
Over the weekend I will be putting together the class on how to make chicken broth from scratch, complete with recipe and a very embarrassing tutorial on how I cut up a chicken very badly. You really don’t want to miss it.
I will eventually be sharing the content also on my blog but if you want to get “course material” such as recipes ahead of time and see the video of the class first, just sign up for my free class:
I am so excited about really studying food and sharing what I learn with you! I think we are going to have so much playing with knives and fire together.
Looking forward to your lessons! Just an FYI, if you get PBS with your cable company, they air some pretty awesome cooking shows on Saturdays. Yes, real instruction like America’s Test Kitchen, Essential Pepin, Simply Ming, Lidia’s Kitchen. Sadly, I don’t watch much of FoodNetwork at all anymore…too much drama.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Michael Smith has a NEW cooking show on this fall, “Chef Michael’s Kitchen.”

It’s real cooking/instruction. There may be a glimmer of hope for FN yet…lol
I used to watch Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen but have OD’d on that show’s constant conflict, swearing and contestants who are pains in the ass.
Ava, yes! Jacques Pepin’s show is wonderful, I am hoping to get his new cookbook. Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about PBS on Saturdays and love Michael Smith and Anna’s new show too. I do hope they start making more shows like that again.
Debra, I adore Gordon’s shows but they’re so formulaic I got bored too. When I realized I wasn’t learning from them, I stopped watching. My brain needs to learn!
Hilarious idea and hilarious writing. I am still laughing. Brilliant. I don’t have time to watch the video right now, or to sign up, but just had to drop you a line to let you know about the big smile you put on my face!
🙂

I get that there will be violence and foul language in your course material, but you’re missing the third leg to keep the students’ attention: nudity.

Valerie, that’s exactly the kind of response I was hoping for, yay! 🙂 Smiles, knives and good food. That’s what it’s all about.
FS, never going to happen.
