On my birthday last January I was a disaster. Even afterwards, for months I was in bed, sick to my stomach. I did not know you can push yourself beyond exhaustion to a point of nausea with fibromyalgia. Just when I thought I knew everything there is about this awful disease, it took me over a health cliff to a point that scared the hell out of me.
I kept writing of course. Product reviewing. Eating when I could. Celebrating foodie moments like the Doritos Roses I got for Valentine’s Day.
I could still be amazed that you can make Instant Pot Risotto.
It took months and months but I finally started to feel better thanks to a combination of rest and heavy medication.
My Trip To The Gourmet Warehouse was a huge deal. I finally got out of the apartment and out on public transit to do a feature post.
Foodie Day At The PNE was another milestone. I have a hard time in crowds and the heat but did it! I even made it to TWO food truck festivals in the summer.
My Trip To Toronto scared me. Would it put my health back to where it was in January? I had to do it though. I did my best to do all that I could and my favourite event was getting to eat at the Loaded Pierogi with my sisters.
I came home and did not even get a chance to rest. I had to get out to see Anna Olson at her cookbook signing which is the biggest foodie highlight of my year.
I was published several times by Gastropost in the paper but getting featured for my Rice Cube photos was the coolest!
I even got featured as a veteran food blogger on Food Bloggers of Canada’s website! Believe it or not, I have been around longer than they have! What an honour.
I did my best with my current health conditions to put myself out there and take on everything I could. It was a pretty cool foodie year and I hope 2017 is even more awesome for us all!

Suzie, Wow – You have really accomplished a lot this year. Congratulations!!! This disease of ours, is very difficult to live with. I take “Savella”, which works amazing for dealing with the flare-ups and crippling pain. But nothing for the Fatigue. I have never heard of nausea related to Fibro. My Doctors think it was that my stomach was destroyed from antibiotics and other medications I take. They even prescribed a medication, normally for chemo patients my nausea is so bad. I’ll quit complaining now. Wishing you a wonderful and healthy New Year.

Thank you Cathe!!! I’ll have to look into Savella and I know, nothing you can do about fatigue. I had no idea about the nausea either until it happened to me. It was a nightmare. So you are having it too? I ended up on clonazapam for my nerves and that finally helped. I also started drinking coconut water mixed with fruit juice to help boost my hydration as much as possible which helped take the edge off. May you have a very healthy and happy 2017!
