Happy International Coffee Day!

Happy International Coffee Day!

I love this photo! I took it the first time we went to our “new local” Starbucks. Reg is clearly loving his hot cup of coffee. Me? At the time I was still struggling for the perfect iced coffee and theirs was way too strong for me.

Tim Horton’s

Happy International Coffee Day!

So yes, I have become addicted to coffee with caffeine again. During the move, there was no way I could do all that I had to do without chemical stimulation and inspiration. Thanks to the summer heat, my obsession with ice coffee only worsened and thanks to eating on a budget, we ended up at Tim Horton’s for a hearty breakfast more times than I can count.

Sadly, no matter how many different ways I ordered an iced coffee from their massive Broadway and Heather location, I never enjoyed it! Even though I asked for sweetener and a couple of shots of hazelnut, it always tasted weak and not very sweet.

Denny’s

On the weekend sometimes we would splurge and go Denny’s and the last time we were there I ordered a frozen coffee. Which sounded delicious! But again, fairly bland flavour with not enough sweetening. Bummer!!!

Blenz

On days that we were in a hurry but needed a little sustenance, Reg and I got Blenz‘s mocha protein shake. Filling, quite delicious but I could taste the protein powder which, for these kinds of days, was just fine.

Starbucks

With a Starbucks right in our hood with free wifi… I was determined to find a beverage I did not dislike. I finally decided to get a latte instead of an iced coffee with two shots of hazelnut and sweetened with Splenda. Normally I would never use an artificial sweetener but it dissolves very easily and gives me the sweetness I need.

McDonald’s

My newsletter readers know some exciting information about McDonald’s coffee! Sign up to become a Foodie Rockstar here!

You know I am crazy about McDonald’s McCafé Coffee Frappé so every time I went to McDonald’s that is what I got. Until… I got curious about their vanilla iced coffees and ordered one. There is some sweetener with the vanilla syrup but once again, I found myself adding Splenda to sweeten it.

Foodie Conclusion

In the end, I prefer to make my own iced coffee with decaf and Almond Fresh Coconut Milk. But! There are times when you are out and want a liquid treat to cool you off on a hot day. I hope this post gives you a glimpse at all the different ways I have tried to enjoy coffee for International Coffee Day.

I would love to hear your own recommendations. How will you be celebrating with coffee today?

Reg looks like he’s taking communion in that photo. Maybe he is . . . .

Coffee is like a religion to Reg, it’s true. I am so glad I snuck this photo!

Get Starbucks to blend your iced coffee … I do that with their shaken iced tea. So much better.
I worship at the altar of caffeine too.
