Janice's Brownies

Get Recipe!

Foodie friend Janice responded to my call on Facebook. I was looking for no-fail brownie recipes and did she ever come through for me and Reg! These are a little on the cake-y side but still with enough moist goo to make our knees week this weekend. Thank you Janice!

The Recipe

Janice's Brownies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8″ square pan. You will need:

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder

Janice's Brownies

In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat.

Stir together sugar, eggs and 1 tsp vanilla.

Sift together 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1/2 cup flour, salt and baking powder. Stir together.

Janice's Brownies

Slowly temper in the melted butter.

Add dry ingredients to wet. Stir until just combined. Do not over mix!

Pour into pan. Bake in oven for 25-30 minutes. Janice recommended baking it for just 25 minutes which is exactly what I did.

They did not rise a lot but that is pretty typical for brownies. After letting them cool for 10 minutes I took a plastic spatula and loosened around the sides since I did not use parchment paper. I wanted to put the square of brownies on a pretty plate but no way, these are way too tender.

Nice and crisp on the outside, cake-y with a touch of moistness to bring it altogether. These are the classic brownie recipe I have been looking for. You rock Janice!

I have had many requests for printable PDFs for recipes from my blog. Here is my first attempt, I hope it works!

Mmmm, I’m thinking of it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. That sounded kind of porny, didn’t it?

Looks good and easy. I should give them a try. But I’m out of cocoa powder but have some carob.

Wish I could reach through the screen and grab two. One for the hubby. Although, let me be honest. It’s highly unlikely that I’d be strong enough to save his piece.
