Product Review

McDonald's Product Reviews & $100 Giveaway!

I have been so curious to try McDonald’s new veggie Signature McWrap™. I had the opportunity to order the Sante Fe Veggie Signature McWrap which has fresh tomatoes, red onions, shredded lettuce, fire roasted corn  black beans and crispy tortilla strips. It is topped with Monterey and cheddar cheese, with chili lime glaze and southwest sauce. Everything is wrapped in a warm whole wheat soft-shell tortilla. The wrap lived up to its description!

It was really hard for me not to order a snack size McCafé Coffee Iced Frappé because I love it so much but everyone has been talking about the Vanilla Chai Tea Iced Frappé. So, I ordered it instead. I am so glad I did!

McDonald's Product Reviews & $100 Giveaway!

The Sante Fe Veggie Signature McWrap was very, very tasty and I just love those corn tortillas. The vegetables were all very fresh and crunchy and the crispiness of the tortilla strips added excellent texture. I was hoping there would be more beans in the wrap and think that with the taco-style flavouring, refried beans would have been a better choice.
These wraps are very large and when I first started eating it, the heat in the sauce did not bother me much but by the end of the wrap my nose was running and I was having a hard time. I am a self-confessed “spice wimp” but I think a lot of people might find this wrap spicier than they were expecting.

McDonald's Product Reviews & $100 Giveaway!

That is one of the main reasons why I am so grateful I ordered the Vanilla Chai Tea Iced Frappé, it helped cool my mouth down as I was finishing lunch. It reminds me of a grown-up and exotic icy version of a milkshake. I tried to find out more about it on the website  to find out exactly what is in it but there seemed to be a couple of versions. I am hoping the one I had is the one with skim milk because it has a lot less calories. It was quite delicious and subtle yet intriguing. I can see why it is so popular.
Overall, I was pretty happy with the Sante Fe Veggie Signature McWrap but a little shocked that it has almost as many calories as a Big Mac! The wrap has 490 calories and a Big Mac has 540. Most of the calories come from the wrap itself. See nutritional information below. The wrap has more carbs and less protein and I noticed, it did not keep me very full for very long despite the high calorie count. The wrap is huge, definitely not a side.  I love that there is now a meatless option at McDonald’s.

I give the Sante Fe Veggie Signature McWrap four out of five wooden spoons only if you like food a little on the spicy side. If you do not, I would stay away from this one just in case. I give the Vanilla Chai Tea Iced Frappé four out of five wooden spoons as well. A little subtle for my palette but paired great with the Sante Fe McWrap,it is quite original, yummy and refreshing.

About the Signature McWrap

Here’s some information on the Signature McWrap which you can modify to meet your preferences. For example, if you remove the Southwest sauce from the Santa Fe you eliminate 90 calories and 10 grams of fat. Alternatively, if you take out the Chili Lime Tortilla strips, you eliminate 80 calories and 4g of fat from the Santa Fe.

In the Mediteranean, removing the sauce will save you 120 calories and 12g of fat, while taking out the hummus will eliminate 60 calories and 3g of fat. Another option is to take out the Lemon Crispy Onions which are 40 calories and 3g of fat if you’re not an onion fan.

The Whole Wheat Tortilla is 200 calories, 4.5 grams of fat and 350 mg of sodium. The calories in the tortilla represent 45% of the calories in Santé Fe and 41% of the Mediterranean.
Of course, you have the option to completely customize each Signature McWrap – you can have half the sauce if you’d like or none at all and that goes for all the ingredients.

I have to say that I always gravitate to the Big Mac, being the carnivore I am :), however, this looks delicious!

I’ve been thinking of trying the hummus one. A $100.00 gift card for McD’s would buy me a lot of iced coffee! That’s my weakness there lately. I have one a day usually. Thanks for the review Suzie! I don’t like fast food that is spicy so I think I’ll leave this one out and have the hummus one. Knowing now that the calorie count is high (no surprise here) I’ll try to not eat the whole thing when I try it.

I want to try the Santa Fe wrap and the Mediterranean Veggie wrap. I do love meat but sometimes I would just rather something without meat. Thanks as always for doing the product review. Also always good to remember that just because something is made vegetarian doesn’t mean that it has few calories.

I love the Santa Fe! The high calories/fat deters me, but I appreciate the tips you listed for making it a bit better. I also love that McDs has veggie options now! Makes my life much easier when my family and I stop for our take-out tradition on road trips! Thanks Suzie!
