We have had the most amazing autumnal weather here on the east coast! Which is great because to do product testing at McDonald’s requires an extra-long walk for me. Less guilt for indulging I suppose!
The Quest
When my Auntie Laima and Uncle Meinhard were here visiting, they picked me up a Mediterranean Veggie Signature McWrap® for lunch. I was so hungry, I forgot to take a photograph of it! Which is a shame but it was so good, I ate it in seconds. I loved the hummus and feta combo, absolute genius idea which I am going to steal. There were little crispy bits that added so much flavour and texture! I could not wait to get another one.
The Wrap
One of the great aspects to these wraps is they are made-to-order. I thought by adding some chicken to the wrap, it would fill me up for the rest of the day and all the errands I was trying to get done. Of course I also ordered a McCafé Coffee Iced Frappé because I am addicted to them.
The problem? I did not see any hummus. Also, I did not find any of those crunchy flavourful bits that I loved so much. This was actually quite ordinary and boring. My attempt to be experimental totally failed and I was left wanting those delicious flavours again.
I totally downed my McCafé Coffee Iced Frappé though. Damn, it is so flavourful!
Pumpkin Spice Latte (sort of)
I had also been hearing so much about their seasonal McCafé Pumpkin Spice Latte (available from September 3rd – October 21st) so I added it to my list of things-to-try when I went back yet again to McDonald’s. Of course now I want to try their Cinnamon Melts!
The problem this time? The Pumpkin Spice Latte is made with freshly ground espresso, fresh milk, freshly steamed (customer’s choice of skim or 2%) and topped with cinnamon. Which all sounds awesome except that it has more caffeinated than regular coffee and I can not have caffeine at all. I would have ended up with a blinding monster migraine.
My server was very helpful and suggested she make me a decaf version using the pumpkin spice syrup and I said, sure, go for it!
Back to the Wrap
This time I just ordered the Mediterranean McWrap with zero modifications. Those little crunchy tasty bits were back (love those!) but there appeared to be some of the Southwest sauce on it, not hummus. It was also mostly lettuce too. It makes me so sad not to have the original flavours I enjoyed so much when I had the first wrap! I thought this was one company that was all about consistency.
Latte Blues
Now of course this is not the actual pumpkin spice latte everyone else has been drinking lately:
“Made with delicious Fall flavours such as pumpkin, cinnamon and spices, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is the perfect accompaniment to Fall favourites such as the McDonald’s apple pie or baked apple oatmeal muffin.”
For me, I took one sip and felt like I was DRINKING a Morning Glory Muffin. It was so strong and sweet and… well, not pleasant. It was weird and tasted fake. I took a few sips but left the almost-full container on top of the garbage can on my way out.
Foodie Conclusion
I want to say thank you to McDonald’s for inviting me into their establishments and allowing me to product test so much of their new menu. I wish I was finishing on a more positive note but you know me foodies, I have to tell the truth.
I can not rate either of these products because the wraps were inconsistent and the coffee was not an official latte. I can say it has been a lot of fun and can not wait to see what McDonald’s comes up with next.
