Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

May 2, 2016 by Suzie the Foodie 7 Comments

Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

In general I was very happy with my Decadent Caramelized Peaches & Cream Ice Cream but it needed something. It was so rich, it required a little bit of an edge. Reg suggested adding orange flavour to it. It would still be sweet but have a citrus bite to it. This got me thinking. I decided to add even more zing with some fresh lemon juice.

This sauce can be used on just about anything you want to add the essence of orange to. I personally love the combination of chocolate and orange so I would love to try this drizzled over a brownie! Fill your foodie boots with your awesome ideas.

The Recipe

Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

You will need 1 tbsp cornstarch and 4 tbsp of cold water to make a slurry. For the rest of the sauce you will need 1 cup cold water, juice of 1 lemon, juice of 1 orange, 3 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp orange extract, 1 tsp orange blossom water and 2 tbsp of butter cut into pieces.

Make the slurry of cornstarch and cold water.

Juice the lemon and the orange.

Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

I scooped out some of my Decadent Caramelized Peaches & Cream Ice Cream and drizzled the cooled sauce on top.

Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

It was like a stunning orange-scented and flavoured glossy blanket on top. It competed strongly with the peach flavour but absolutely did cut through the richness with its stunning orange essence.

Orange Lemon Dessert Sauce

An absolutely beautiful sauce that would be good for so many applications! A wonderful way to add the gorgeous essence of orange with a little bit of citrus edge to any dessert.

I love making homemade ice cream. And orange cream (free from dairy), is one I do often.
