Recipe: Banana Mango Smoothie

Banana Mango Smoothie

It’s sunny out today (shocking) and I hear we are supposed to get fantastic weather this weekend and mangoes were on sale…so of course I started to think about smoothies!

When it’s warm, I live on smoothies. Sometimes it’s the only thing I can have when the temperatures skyrocket because I am not turning on that stove or I have gotten sick of salads. I turn to smoothies when I am hungry and don’t know what else to do and need nourishment now!

The mangoes that were on sale weren’t the greatest and my bananas are getting super ripe, therefore, I could make the perfect smoothie with them.

Recipe

First, put two ice cubes in the blender right away so while you are chopping they begin to warm up so they will become more blendible. Peel and chop one mango. Peel and put in one ripe banana. Add 1 to 2 tbsp of honey (or whatever kind of sweetener you like to use), 1/2 tsp of vanilla (this takes the smoothie over the edge), 3/4 cup of orange juice and 1/2 cup of plain yogurt. Blend blend blend!

Update: I have since changed this recipe and recommend also adding coconut milk, juice of half a lemon and a little sweetened condensed milk to sweetened instead of the honey. Tastes like a coconut mango cream pie!

Banana Mango Smoothie

My recipe for this Banana Mango Smoothie makes this big a serving, either one giant one or two smaller more conservative smoothies. You can substitute the fruit and/or the juices for something else you prefer. I know some people are sensitive to citrus so maybe try making a berry smoothie with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries in cranberry juice. The combinations are endless!

Smoothies are awesome any time of the day or year but especially now when the price of fruit is FINALLY coming down it is a great time to start blending. Oh and this smoothie is very thick, if you like it thinner just add more juice.

What is your favourite kind of smoothie? I’d love to get more smoothie-making ideas.

That sounds absolutely delicious. I never thought of doing one with cranberry juice – interesting! I’m going to have to try making a smoothie-a-la-Suzie!

Thanks Jamie! The cranberry juice will keep that bright pinky purply colour and add some additional zing. It’s wonderful!

    Smoothie-a-la-Suzie! I LIKE that!

I buy overripe bananas on sale, peel and freeze them…then I don’t need the ice.

Good luck on that nice weather forecast!!!!

I’ve made one with frozen raspberries, some vanilla yogurt, and a bit of milk – yummy! Tastes just like one of the (expensive) Booster Juice smoothies and much less costly.
