Oh it has been so dark and stormy here in Vancouver!!! Big storm last night. Lots of people lost power, transformers were blowing up filling the sky with what people thought was lightning… It finally flew off to the east and gave us a reprieve.
This is what we call a sunny November day on the west coast. The wind had died off, the overwhelming darkness and rain had passed and look, almost sunshine. At least our grass is green again!
When the sun kind of comes out, Vancouverites go outside. Desperate for natural Vitamin D, Reg and I went for a walk in our hood and ended up at Starbucks.
News that I will will have family coming and staying with me (OMG, I am going to have to learn how to roast a turkey!) for Christmas, I am finding myself in almost a festive mood.
I had heard that Starbucks had some new holiday flavours to try and they all sounded so good: Chestnut Praline Latte, Peppermint Mocha and Caramel Brûlé Latte. As you can see from this sign they also have an Eggnog Latte!
I love chestnuts and I love pralines so for me it was a no-brainer.
I took one sip of my decaf-version and wow! Absolutely delicious. Decadent, sinful, sweet (no sweetener required) and so very nutty. I personally tasted more nutmeg than anything else but Reg put it perfectly, “Holy mackerel! That’s like drinking a Christmas cookie!”
On Facebook a lot of people confessed that they loved it too but were shocked at its sweetness. As someone who likes sweet coffee, I was good with it but it is true, if you want it but not super-sweet do as my friend Michelle suggests. Order it “half sweet.”
Me? Bring it! Look, life has been dark and depressing and worrisome. We walked home drinking our coffees feeling a little lighter about life. For Reg is was the caffeine in his tall and dark coffee but for me it was the sweet creamy nutty goodness of my Chestnut Praline Latte.
Damn it Starbucks, you found my foodie number. I give this product five out of five wooden spoons.

And yay! You got a red cup!
The only advice I have about roasting a turkey is to buy the damn thing early. They’ll go quick in the stores. Hopefully you have freezer space.

Yes, got one of their evil cups, LOL. Good to know about the turkeys and nope, zero freezer space so it’s going to be very interesting. My mom used to make a roast with Yorkshire pudding instead which I might do…
