I Starved At Fan Expo 2016

November 16, 2016 by Suzie the Foodie 6 Comments

Fan Expo Vancouver 2016

I love going to conventions! Besides being a foodie I am a total geek. Since moving back to the west coast I have been to one convention. It was Fan Expo Vancouver 2015. It was fantastic! The venue was large, there were food trucks, it was in the spring so the weather was great… Zero complaints.

This year? They moved the venue to a smaller one. They made buying tickets incredibly difficult for people with mobility issues (apparently for no reason). They hosted it in November when it is crud weather season in a place that was so small we were packed in like sardines and then forced to wait outside for events.

Plus… Next to zero food!!! There was one cafe that I kept trying to go to but they kept kicking us outside. I starved all day. Seriously pissed me off but there were some awesome moments I want to share in case you are also a fellow nerd like me.

The Good Stuff

Lucifer’s Q&A with D B Woodside (Amenadiel) and Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen) was fantastic! I thoroughly got so much out of it and now it is even more fun to watch the show after hanging out with these two. That said, where were the headliners for the Q&As? Arrow, Flash, Lucifer… Everything is filmed in Vancouver so what the hell?

In honour of Christopher Lloyd’s being at the convention Reg dressed up as his iconic character Doc Brown from Back To The Future and even bumped into himself!

Then there were awesome moments like this one where I was suddenly transported to the “pirate city” of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine.

The GRRR Moments

But to see Christopher Lloyd we all had to wait outside in line and thank goodness we did not have rain which is a miracle at this time of year. Nobody was happy about it. Last time people were outside posing, smiling, laughing… I think we were all pissed off.

Yup, spent most of my time starving while being forced to wait outside for events which sucked. We should have been in that building there, nice and cozy inside.

Doc wasn’t happy about it at all.

These are people forced to eat and rest outside on the pavement because there was no place to do it inside. Shameful!!!

Back To The Happier Moments

Now the people that paid to come to the convention were amazing. Their costumes? Fantastic! This one was my favourite. Aliens is my all time favourite movie.

I got fist bumped by Vader!

Pikachu was giving out hugs.

Chewy was on patrol.

Doc and Marty actually found each other (total fluke) and synchronized their watches.

This sewn food by Case Boutique Creations was the closest I got to food the whole day.

The best moment was when Reg got his autograph from Christopher Lloyd who did not realize Reg was in costume as himself until he looked up. The delight and humour in his eyes when he did was truly magical.

OK, so I starved and physically suffered all day but there were some great moments. I hope they go back to their former venue next year where there were food trucks and lots of places to rest because damn it Fan Expo Vancouver, I adore you. Don’t make this foodie mad again!!! I want to love and share your awesomeness with the world.

Thanks! It was a really tough day physically and emotionally but we still had fun. Love hanging out with fellow geeks.

Wow, that does not sound well-organized at all. But as usual, Reg’s cosplay is great — plus HIS crazy-inventor-genius white hair is real, not just a wig like than other wannabe!

It was terrible Debra, so much better in 2015. Yay! So glad you liked Reg’s cosplay and yes, his hair was the real deal!
