Super Foods

Shiitake Mushrooms

When I lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, I found an amazing naturopath. Unlike many naturopaths he preferred to help people through the use of food more than supplements. When I was there I learned so much about the healing properties of food. Vancouver is very influenced by Asian medicine which was fascinating and the foods were easy to find. It was there that I started to learn about the healing properties of shiitake mushrooms.
I had a close encounter with cancer that I wanted to avoid ever having to go through again and shiitake mushrooms were on the top of my naturopath’s list for fending off cancer. I was happy to find out that cooked tomato sauce was another cancer fighter so my love affair with Prego could continue. Yes, I love that jarred tomato sauce!
Sadly I do not get to buy shiitake mushrooms very often because they are not as easy to find here as they are out west. Yet there are so many super foods to embrace, which is your favourite? I still swear that blueberries make me feel better, I can taste their happy antioxidants as I slurp them up with a little skim milk and sugar.
What is your favourite super food?

I eat broccoli all the time. I don’t enjoy it always, I know it’s one of the superfoods. I do feel better after I eat it.
