Once again this fall the Chestnut Praline Latte has returned to Starbucks. Two years ago I was desperate to get out of the house after lots of rain and nights of windstorms to get some Vitamin D and product review this beverage.
Today was a very similar day. The sun came out and I rushed outside. This time I took my friend Michelle’s advice and ordered it half sweet but I forgot to tell them not to add the whipped cream.
One thing I was missing last time was the actual chestnut praline topping! It was quite delicious and I needed it. You see I finally got the courage to sign up for FoodSafe so I could consider selling my food.
For days I have been studying the booklet, watching the course online only to discover today that in BC it is illegal to sell food that comes from your kitchen. That’s right. Unless I can get to a farmers market, it is not legal for me to make money from my own kitchen anywhere else. I would have to rent an industrial kitchen which for someone with mobility issues is downright impossible.
Upon this realization I picked up my book and went out into the frigid air for a long walk to enjoy this beverage once again. Less sugar this time, more fat. Still delicious. My comfort food comes in paper cups in liquid decaf form.
I take my test in the next couple of days and ponder the purpose of it now. I am still going to do it since I paid over $100 for the damn thing but honestly, my foodie future is looking less certain every day. I keep trying. Life keeps knocking me down.
I think I earned that whipped cream today.

We have those same laws in Alberta. I think most provinces do now.

Yes, apparently Saskatchewan is the only one that’s kind of open. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

I know things look down but don’t you give up. Keep making those videos and follow your dreams. You got one life and you are too great not to go for it. You are, Suzie the Foodie.
Keep going.
