A while ago I made Sunny‘s Mean Green Cucumber Juice and was very disappointed. It was so sweet, I could not drink it. I watered it down and the flavour disappeared. As a result, I was a bit hesitant to try her Ginger Pear Tea recipe but the reviews were so glowing, I had to give it a shot!
Sunny used regular pears but I found Asian pears at my store and picked them up! You peel and grate the flesh of two pears.
Put them in a large sauce pan with 4 cups of water, half a cup of sugar and 1 inch piece of ginger sliced into coins. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
Remove from heat and strain. Bring to room temperature and then chill in the fridge. I believe you can drink it hot but I wanted to have it cold.
Even on a dark and dreary day, this tastes like a fiesta in my mouth! I was worried the ginger would be too strong and overshadow the pear but really, it balanced the drink perfectly. I was so relieved it was not too sweet. This drink is lovely! Soothing and warming, even though it is a cool thanks to the ginger.
Ginger is so good for you that I decided to incorporate this homemade tea into my super immunity smoothie:
Every night I make a smoothie, I consider it my dessert for the day. For one big healthy portion put in a blender: 1/2 cup of diced mango, 1/2 a banana, 1/3 cup of mango juice, 1/2 cup of the ginger pear tea, some lemon juice, a little honey, some liquid vitamin D and Jamieson Organic Flax Liquid. In order for Vitamin D to be absorbed, it needs fat, calcium and magnesium which means a smoothie with flax oil is the perfect vessel.
This tea took my mango smoothie over-the-edge in deliciousness! That hint of ginger? Absolutely perfect with the mango! BTW, you can not taste the Vitamin D or the flax which makes this one perfect healthy smoothie, if you ask me.
I can not recommend this tea highly enough! I absolutely love it and am going to try making it on a regular basis. It is so delicious and how cool is it that it is completely homemade? It makes me realize just how rarely we make our own drinks from scratch.
Bravo Sunny! I give this recipe five out of five wooden spoon. Plus an extra spoon on the side for making my super immunity smoothie that much healthier AND tastier.

Her recipes may be good but how can you stand to listen to that woman ? To me she is a living Chatty Kathy Doll !! I have never heard one person talk so much in a 22 minute stretch. She barely even draws a breath and that whiney voice turns me off, TOTALLY !!!!
BTW Glad you like the tea Suzie.

Oh I actually find Sunny quite entertaining! But then I liked Rachael Ray in the beginning too. I love hearing how she has lived all over the world, how the food is there, her stories. Thanks Wayne, I did like the tea! 🙂

Not only does that tea sound delicious, despite the fact that I don’t favour asian pears but I’m more of a Bartlett or Bosc girl, but your smoothie sounds EVEN BETTER! I need to get more vitamin d badly, and I think it might be the answer:D
