I had a dream the other night that I was taking an art class and asked, if you were a cake, what would you be? I immediately woke up, obsessed with this idea. What kind of cake would I be?
I went through all the different cakes and fought with all sorts of ideas until I realized, I would be a strawberry angel food cake. Why?
That is the first cake my mom made me and it was the grandest thing I had ever seen! It was for my birthday and she brought it to the bowling alley where my party was. She even hid coins inside! It was foodie magic and perfection. A stunningly light cake wrapped in ribbons upon ribbons of thick pink icing.
Last night with the moon full, I could not sleep. I had to go and paint a wonky picture of that cake my mom made me.
I have spent a lot of my adult life hating cake. It is nice to remember why cakes can be so special too and how my mom shared this special gift with us. Yay for cakes!

That is a wonderful drawing. Oh my gosh. Love it. And I loved your story as well.
Thanks for sharing and boogie boogie.

Thank you so much! I had fun with watercolour paints and ink. For a while I had totally forgotten about that cake. I am so glad I had that dream.

Your cake art is so pretty. What an amazing mom you had. I don’t even like strawberry but that cake sounds amazing.

Thank you so much Shell and yes, my mom was amazing. She totally came up with the perfect cake just for me and she hated baking so it meant even more, LOL.

I’d have a slice right now, just based on your artwork! I remember when birthday cakes had coins hidden in them — wrapped in tin foil, of course. It was a big deal to get a quarter! I suppose people don’t do that anymore. Too bad. The world needs more innocent fun like that.

Aww… Thank you Debra! How I have missed you. 🙂 I think my Mom put the coins in after the cake was made and probably just shoved them in there. It’s true, such fun that doesn’t really exist anymore.
