Testing Jamie Oliver’s Super Easy Squash Roasting Method

January 29, 2017 by Suzie the Foodie 11 Comments

In this just one minute video I investigate something I saw on a Jamie Oliver TV show.

Testing Jamie Oliver's Super Easy Squash Roasting Method

If this technique works then why the hell have we been fighting with squash for so long and making our lives harder?

I am using this method from now on. Make sure if you are using a larger squash to keep it in there longer.

Thank you so much Jamie Oliver!

    I would just add, “wash first.” Might not be evident for a lot of people — cooking skills have skipped a generation. There’s a lot of potential surface bacteria that may or may not be killed by the oven heat, that can get dragged into the squash by the knife edge when it’s cut open.

    Oh, and maybe add to put some tin foil or something at the bottom of the oven, they can often leak (as you noticed haha.)

    This is a great way to prepare a lot of squash at once for freezing. Scoop out cooked flesh into freezer bags or straight-sided containers or jars, and freeze.

    Cheers, fun vid! :}

      Yes, that makes sense Randal, to wash it first would be wise! I was so surprised you didn’t have to jab it with anything. Just throw it in there but next time I will use a baking sheet with foil or parchment, LOL. Great idea to freeze it too once it has cooled off! So smart. Then you can portion it out for: soups, pasta/ravioli filling…

      Thanks for watching!

    It’s so true! I found out a couple years ago using the same method with spaghetti squash that I grew. I cut one open, to get seeds for planting next time. But to cut it open was so hard and dangerous, that I thought: just get it in there and bake it whole 😉 Now we all know!

      No way Cathy! I guess it makes sense you can do it this way for all squashes. Yes, that one is particularly challenging to open. I was always so nervous about hurting myself. Yes, now we know! Just throw it in there, LOL.

    I’ve done this before and it works but I didn’t get it from Jamie Oliver. But yes, it really is all that easy. Same with small sugar pie pumpkins as well. Pop it in and let her bake. It’s just that simple.

      It’s crazy, I can’t believe we have been making our lives difficult all this time for no reason, LOL. So simple. Wish I had known this one sooner!

    I usually cut it in half first but I’ll give this a try next time. Great video Suzie.

      Me too Heidi! Now we don’t have to fight with it. Just throw it in there until it’s soft. Crazy, LOL.
