Let’s be honest! The BEST thing about having an air fryer is the idea of making non-deep fried but crunchy and delicious chicken wings. That it the main reason why people buy them. That and making low fat French fries. So I had to put them through my Avalon Bay Air Fryer like I did my pierogies but before that…
Pizza Bites
My friend Ivy The Happy Whisk is a HUGE fan of air fryers! She makes everything in hers so I asked her where should I start to properly test one and her husband actually responded with pizza bites.
I might have over cooked them a little…
A little scorched by still very crunchy and tasty. Then I knew I was ready for the big test. Air fried chicken wings!
Buffalo Wings
Not just ordinary wings either. I love Buffalo wings and often they can be too spicy when I have them out at a pub so this way I get to have them the way I want.
Recipe
Toss 1/2 lb of wings in 2 tsp olive oil, 1/2 tsp kosher salt, 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper and 1/2 tsp garlic powder.
Add to air fryer in single layer and cook at 400F for 15 minutes. Flip and cook at 400F for 10-15 minutes longer.
Beautiful!!! Although I wanted to make more wings and couldn’t because there was limited space and they do take at least 25 minutes to cook.
To make Buffalo sauce heat 2 tbsp Buffalo wing sauce, 2 tbsp ketchup and 1 tsp of butter until butter is melted. Stir together to combine.
Toss wings in some of the sauce (I like it extra saucy).
Put back in air fryer at 400F for 5 minutes.
Foodie Results and Conclusion
Despite having limited number of chicken wings due to the lack of space issue, these did not disappoint. They were absolutely delicious. I am a huge fan of chicken wings but I do not deep fry food so this is a huge foodie breakthrough for me. I almost only ever get to enjoy them when I am out and then I am often left disappointed if I do not like their sauce or if there is not enough sauce…
Being able to make my favourite kind of chicken wings at home and have them super crispy and moist without deep frying them is true foodie liberation!
The sad news is that because of the upcoming move my beautiful air fryer is packed away and going into storage for the next couple of months. Still! Lots to look forward to making in the future and I am super thrilled that I have one. I highly recommend them and will learn to even BAKE with it in the near future!
Oh, how I love deep-fried chicken wings! Now you’re tempting me to get an air fryer. I somehow found the strength to resist Ivy’s enthusiasm for air frying but not when both of you gang up on me, LOL!
There is nothing better, I swear, so delicious and I don’t eat out very much and so now I can have them at home. Sorry, yes, Ivy and I are being bad influences, LOL. Or good. I mean, it is healthier than deep frying, something I couldn’t do at home. I just couldn’t.
Looks like a great appliance . I am however out of Brownie Points to buy new toys so I’ll have to stick to baking my wings .
We owned a counter-top fryer at one time but let it go because we hardly ever used it . My collection of wing recipes has many oven fried recipes even Double Crunch Style so We’ll get along OK !!!
Hey, baking is good too Wayne! I don’t know how people handle all that fat sitting around and being reused, that’s another reason why I didn’t get a regular fryer. Oh double crunch style? That sounds fantastic!
I had not heard of an air fryer then I see this! …right after I saw for making kale chips…!!
Cathy, yes, I could totally see people making kale chips with one of these! It is a hot foodie trend right now to have one, much healthier alternative for a lot of food and to not have to use the oven? It is going to come in super handy this summer.
