At first I did not get why everyone was making hard boiled eggs in their Instant Pot. I made mine on the stovetop like Laura Calder taught me. Bring water with eggs in it to a boil, remove from heat, cover and let sit 10 minutes. Usually it worked like a charm until one day the eggs REFUSED to leg go of their shells and I was stuck with just egg yolks. This happened with three eggs!
I was done. I started doing research into the best way to make hard boiled eggs in the pressure cooker and saw a discussion my friend Natalie was having online and tried to use the technique myself. Let’s just say the following would make perfect devilled eggs!
How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In The Instant Pot
Put a steamer or wire insert in the bottom of your Instant Pot. Put eggs on top.
You will need 1 cup of water.
Put into Instant Pot.
Fasten lid and put pressure cooker on the steam setting for six minutes.
Then let sit in the Instant Pot as it decompresses for six minutes.
Remove eggs and let sit in cold icy water for…
That is right! Six minutes! OMG, these are Damien eggs, LOL.

Martha Stewart taught me that the best way to increase your luck of peeling eggs is to tap the bottom on the kitchen counter.
It will sometimes have a little pocket of air that will make shell removal much easier.
So easy! So perfect! OMG, no fighting with the shell at all.
Testing Part 2
I let the eggs sit in the fridge for a couple of days to see if it would still be easy to remove the shell.
Yes! Slid off, no problem at all.
The egg was beautiful inside a couple of days after I cooked them too.
Adding hard boiled eggs to my salad is one of my favourite treats. I guess technically these demon eggs are actually hard steamed but whatever. They are perfect and peeled like a dream. I will never go back to stovetop hard boiled eggs ever.
I have had my Instant Pot for at least four years now and it is still showing me that it does everything better. Incredible.

666 Damien eggs, LOL!
Suzie the Foodie says
Isn’t that hysterical Debra? When I saw that everything was broken into three sixes, I had to try it.

We finally have another convert. 🙂 I agree. No going back for me either. I’ve also noticed some brands of eggs are harder to peel too.
Suzie the Foodie says
Yup! I will never go back after losing 3 eggs using the stovetop method.
Bobi Pachano says
Should I have let out the pressure between the steam cycle one the “decompress” cycle? Mine were a little green around the yolk.
Suzie the Foodie says
Bobi, you need to let them be on the steam cycle set for 6 minutes. Once it starts beeping, let it decompress for 6 minutes and then let out the rest of the steam. Put into very cold water 6 minutes. Mine did have green at all. I hope that helps!

Hi Susie.
I haven’t tried eggs in my instant pot yet. I’ve been steaming them for years. If you get and air pocket it’s because they didn’t make it into the ice bath fast enough. You shouldn’t have any air pockets if they’re shocked in ice immediately. Also the best way to peel them is wit a spoon. Give it a smack to crack the shell with the back of a spoon. Then turn the spoon around and move it around the egg between the shell and the white. The spoon is perfectly contoured to the shape of an egg. Perfect every time, and extremely fast!

Thanks Kerry! Thankfully with the Instant Pot now I never have a problem but it’s good to know the old school technique.
