Product Review: PC Blue Menu Harissa Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Product Review PC Blue Menu Harissa Stuffed Chicken Breasts

PC Blue Menu Harissa Stuffed Chicken Breasts is my final new PC Blue Menu protein-focused back-to-school product review for 2017. I chose it because I get so bored of chicken and chicken is Reg’s favourite protein. If I could find an easy-to-make chicken product that is tasty and healthy I would be thrilled.

Making The Product

As usual I choose to forgo the microwave (no thanks) and picked the oven method to cook the chicken. I had to wait until things cooled off here in Vancouver before putting my oven up to 375F for 40-45 minutes.

The Intel

“Tender seasoned chicken breasts are filled with a hearty mix of chickpeas, red bell peppers and butternut squash. They’re nestled in a wonderfully rich and aromatic tomato sauce simmered with exquisite, Moroccan-style harissa seasoning. Great for grilling or oven roasting, they’re an excellent source of both vitamin B12 and selenium, and are a source of fibre.”

I thought it was perfect because it was just dinner for me that night. I was happy to throw it onto a piece of parchment paper and into the oven.

Woah… Lots of goodness seemed to creep out of the chicken…

The Taste Test

I had this leftover amazing German pasta (yes, there is such a thing) my friend bought for me while overseas. I thought it would be the perfect neutral carb that would not mask that Harissa flavour. Don’t worry. I had a side salad too so I got my veggies!

Foodie Conclusion

I will be honest. I had not had anything Harissa-flavoured before so this was all new to me but I was a tad disappointed.

I could taste the red pepper, there was some heat and I could see the chickpeas but overall… I found this chicken dry and very tasteless. Well, not completely, but it needed so much MORE. I wish a red pepper sauce came with it or something. I was bored out of my foodie mind. Remember, I am not one for subtle flavours. You might have it and feel completely differently but I was expecting some flavourful “POW” and instead… It was more of a sad “meh.”

I give this product two out of five foodie wooden spoons. I would rather make my own meal from scratch that has loads of flavour than have this on its own and let it put me to sleep at the dinner table again. The only benefit to this product is not having to stuff the chicken breasts yourself but the filling is so dry and boring… So much potential! Total bummer.
