The Most Secure Front Doors in the UK: 7 Brands Compared on What They Can Prove

secure-front-doors-uk-brands-comparison

Every door brand says its doors are secure. The useful question is what they can show you. A door that has passed an independent attack test, carries police accreditation and ships with an anti-snap cylinder is a different product from one that simply has “multi-point locking” in the brochure.

Doors are a common point of entry in domestic burglaries. In the Crime Survey for England and Wales, 59% of domestic burglaries with entry in the year to March 2025 came through the front of the house, and 77% came through a door rather than a window (ONS, Nature of crime: burglary). The sample is small, about 130 incidents a year, so treat the exact split loosely, but the direction has been consistent for a decade.

We compared seven brands sold in the UK on the security evidence they publish. Here’s what each one can actually back up.

What “Secure” Should Mean on Paper

Three things separate a properly secure door from a merely solid one:

  • An independent attack test. In the UK that’s usually PAS 24, which simulates an opportunist burglar with hand tools. LPS 1175 is another attack-resistance standard, with different ratings for tool sets and attack times. Compare the exact rating rather than the standard name alone.
  • Police accreditation. Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative. Products carrying its Police Preferred Specification need third-party certification to a recognised standard (SBD standards explained).
  • An anti-snap cylinder. Lock snapping is a common attack on euro cylinders. Look for TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond (SS312) ratings.

Match the certificate to the ordered doorset, including its glazing and hardware, and follow the specified installation requirements.

1. Latham’s Steel Doors: Residential and Specialist Security Ranges

Material: galvanised steel · Certification: PAS 24 and Secured by Design on front doors, with LPS 1175 options on its security-rated range

Latham’s publishes PAS 24 certification for its residential front doors and offers separate custom-made LPS 1175 SR2, SR3 and SR4 doorsets. Its residential front doors use a 63mm insulated door leaf with galvanised steel skins, a polyurethane foam core and an LVL/uPVC sub-frame, a Winkhaus multi-point lock and a 3-star Kitemark cylinder, with a thumbturn option, and are listed as Secured by Design. Glazed options use laminated triple glazing. Front doors start from £1,399.99 including VAT, made to measure in the UK, with a published production lead time of 20 working days plus delivery.

Its separate security-rated range runs from PAS 24 panelled and cottage-style steel doors (from £647.99 including VAT) up to LPS 1175 SR2, SR3 and SR4 doorsets. The appropriate rating depends on the risk assessment, installation and any insurer requirements.

Worth knowing: it sells supply only, so you’ll need your own fitter. It lists recommended installers.

These are distinct product ranges, rather than one doorset certified to every standard. Confirm the exact model, rating and installation specification.

2. Hurst Doors: PAS 24:2022 Across a Big Composite Range

Material: GRP composite with a PU foam core and laminated timber inner frame · Certification: PAS 24:2022, Secured by Design, Q-Mark

Hurst describes itself as the UK’s largest composite door manufacturer, with almost 30 years in the trade. Its brochure lists PAS 24:2022, the current version of the standard, alongside Secured by Design, and covers classic, cottage and contemporary styles.

Worth knowing: Hurst mainly supplies through installers and trade, though homeowners can request quotes online.

3. Solidor: A Solid Timber Core and a Break-In Guarantee

Material: composite with a 44mm solid timber core and ABS skins (48mm total) · Certification: PAS 24:2016, Secured by Design

Solidor says every door it makes is PAS 24 certified, and fits the Ultion cylinder, a 3-star anti-snap design backed by a break-in guarantee. Made in Staffordshire, it has been trading for over 20 years.

Worth knowing: it’s sold through installers, so prices vary by area.

4. Rockdoor: Aluminium Inner Frame and Steel Mesh

Material: composite with a 360° aluminium inner frame, 3mm skins and internal steel security mesh · Cylinder: 3-star anti-snap

Rockdoor, made in Britain since 1996, builds its doors around an aluminium frame and a steel mesh layer, and fits a 3-star anti-snap cylinder. It sells through more than 200 installers.

Worth knowing: Rockdoor publishes less certification detail on its homepage than Hurst or Solidor. Ask your installer for the PAS 24 and SBD certificates for the specific door.

5. Door-Stop International: An Ultion Lock Guarantee

Material: GRP composite · Lock: Ultion as standard

Door-Stop fits the Ultion lock on its doors and points to compensation of up to £5,000 under the Ultion guarantee if the lock is snapped. It offers 45 styles in 19 colours with a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better.

Worth knowing: it sells through installers. Ask for the door’s PAS 24 certificate, as it isn’t on the homeowner page.

6. Apeer: Steel Reinforcement in a Composite Door

Material: GRP skins, high-density PU core, steel reinforcement and mesh · Certification: Secured by Design

Apeer, a Northern Irish manufacturer, builds steel reinforcement into its composite doors and is SBD accredited. It also claims U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K with triple glazing. It publishes a typical composite price range of £1,500 to £4,000.

7. Spitfire Doors: Aluminium, With Some PAS 24 Models

Material: aluminium · Certification: PAS 24 on certain models

Spitfire makes bespoke aluminium front doors and lists at least one PAS 24 certified model, with a fingerprint lock option. Its strength is thermal performance, with U-values down to 0.6 to 0.77 W/m²K.

Worth knowing: check that the specific model you want carries PAS 24, as it isn’t stated across the whole range.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. Is this specific door, not just the brand, certified to PAS 24, and which version?
  2. Is it listed on the Secured by Design website?
  3. What is the cylinder rated to: TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond?
  4. Who fits it, and how will any required Building Regulations approval or competent-person certification be handled?

How we compared them

We compared published attack-test certification, Secured by Design claims and cylinder ratings on brand websites and brochures in October 2026. The order is editorial and does not represent a measured ranking of resistance to break-in. Where detail is missing, ask for the certificate for the exact doorset. We did not attack-test any doors and no brand paid to be included. Burglary figures come from the Office for National Statistics. Certification can differ between models within a brand, so always ask for the certificate for the door you’re buying.
